Training, qualifications and experience

I am a qualified Psychotherapist with a Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy from the Bath Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling, (DIP.HIP) 
I am registered with UKCP, the UK Council for Psychotherapy, a leading professional body for Psychotherapy, and as such I am required to have regular supervision and continuing professional development to maintain professional standards of practice. 
 I abide by the UKCP ethical framework and am subject to the UKCP complaints procedure if I diverge from this.

My experience

I have more than 20 years experience in depression, abuse, sexual abuse, relationship problems, trauma, anxiety, addictions, painful repeating patterns, eating problems, feelings of inadequacy and social awkwardness, and many other problems.
As well as having a private practice, I work with the Trauma Foundation South West, a small charity providing Therapy for people who have suffered war, oppression or torture; mainly Asylum seekers and Refugees.
I have also had training with CRUSE Bereavement Counselling, and have had a long experience working with bereavement and loss. 
I worked as an Osteopath for 20 years, which has given me a thorough understanding of the body-mind connection; how physical symptoms and emotional states may interrelate.
My philosophy studies are very useful for Psychotherapy because they have made me question some basic assumptions.
I am affiliated with Climate Psychology Alliance and listed in the Counselling Directory.
My English is fluent, but I am Dutch, so I can work with Dutch speakers. I have taken counselling sessions under my Dutch name: Ellen van der Bij. 

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy at BCPC (Dip HIP)
  • Certificate in Couples Therapy at the Centre for Relational Couples Therapy
  • BA (hons) Philosophy from University College London
  • Diploma Osteopathy from the College of Osteopathic Medicine in London

Additional training

  • Training with CRUSE Bereavement Counselling
  • Training with TFSW (Trauma Foundation South West) to work with severe trauma
