Overcoming bereavement and loss

The horror of death and the loss of someone close to us can affect us in many different ways. You may feel so overwhelmed by grief that you think you will never be happy again, or alternatively you may feel guilty about not feeling very much at all. You may feel angry, depressed, abandoned, or relieved. Strong childhood emotions may be rekindled, and in order to move on, we may need to look back in time. Losing someone you feel angry with may be especially difficult ; you can now never get what you wanted from them. Death by suicide or of a child can be especially traumatic. (see Trauma page)
Also you may feel traumatised by having been made to face up to death; other people's and your own.
People around you often expect you to pick up your life long before you are ready for it. Sometimes, if you don't process the grieving, the after effects may last for years. Together we could try to understand and accept your complex feelings and help you to move on.
I have had special training in bereavement counselling by CRUSE, on top of my Psychotherapy course. I have a wide experience in bereavement issues. I also have an interest in Existential Psychotherapy with its focus on the precariousness of life. I have had a lot of experience with the traumatizing effect an awareness of this can have.

Loss

Loss of e.g. a job, a home, a country, or a partner by divorce, can shatter your world. Mourning the passing of the old and coming to terms with the new is important. Feelings of anger, abandonment, confusion, loneliness, loss of meaning, may need exploring before you can move on and feel more positive about the future.
Together we can be with your pain and help you overcome the hopelessness you feel. you do not need to be alone.
